Carbide end mill (solid carbide) series – Geppetto Cutting Tools
Geppetto Cutting Tools solid carbide end mills: general-purpose, roughing, long-neck, ball nose, micro, aluminium and chamfer mills. Z1–Z6, AlTiN, AlCrN, TiSiN or uncoated.
A carbide end mill (solid carbide end mill) is used on CNC milling machines for slotting, side milling, pocketing, mould work and 3D surfaces, ground entirely from tungsten carbide. Geppetto manufactures them on a CNC tool grinding machine. The right mill depends on the operation, workpiece material and hardness, required reach and machine rigidity.
Carbide end mill types
- General-purpose: MS series (Z2, Z3, Z4), corner-radius MR and MCR, polished MPR, AlCrN-coated MF1C.
- Roughing: MC and serrated MRS series (Z4, Z6), up to 56 HRC.
- Long-neck and extra-long: MLR, MSXM, MCL, MCX, MRC.
- Ball nose and mould: MB, MBL, MBX and circle-segment (barrel) MCSR.
- Micro mills Ø1–Ø5, aluminium mills (AS, ASL, MA, MPA), chamfer and deburring (MC60, MC90, MD90).

Flute count and helix
Flute count balances chip space and rigidity. Z2 and Z3 have large chip space for slotting and aluminium. Z4+ are stiffer for side milling and finishing in steel. Roughing mills use about 45° helix; general-purpose about 35°. Serrated MRS splits the chip and reduces cutting force and vibration at high removal rates.
Coating choice
AlTiN offers high heat resistance for steel and stainless. TiSiN suits hardened steel and mould work. AlCrN is preferred for roughing and tough materials. For aluminium and non-ferrous metals, sharp uncoated AS, ASL, MA and MPA minimise built-up edge.
Choosing by application
For steel and stainless slotting and side milling, start with MS and MR. For high removal use MC and MRS. Above 48 HRC choose series rated to 56 HRC. In deep pockets use the shortest long-neck that reaches. For 3D surfaces use ball nose; for fine detail use micro mills. Start from catalogue cutting data. Worn mills can be reground with our regrinding service.

Frequently asked questions
Which series are suitable for carbide end mills?
Our catalogue has 18 series for this application: MS (Z2), MS (Z3), MS (Z4), MR (Z4), MCR, MF1C (Z4), MC (Z4), MC (Z6), MRS (Z4), MLR (Z4), MSXM (Z4), MCL (Z4), MB (Z2), MBL (Z2), MST (Z4), AS (Z3), MA (Z1), MC90. Overall diameter range: Ø1.5–Ø20 mm.
Which coatings are available in these series?
The series on this page are available with: AlTiN (high heat resistance), AlCrN (wear resistance), TiSiN (extreme hardness), Uncoated.
Up to what hardness can these series be used?
Hardness limits in the catalogue: <48 HRC: MS (Z2), MS (Z3), MS (Z4), MR (Z4), MLR (Z4), MSXM (Z4); <56 HRC: MC (Z4), MC (Z6), MRS (Z4), MCL (Z4), MST (Z4).
Are carbide end mill and solid end mill the same?
End mill is the general name for a shank mill with end and peripheral cutting edges. Carbide end mill describes the material: ground entirely from tungsten carbide. Our MS, MR, MC, MB and other series are solid carbide end mills.
How many flutes should I choose?
For slotting and aluminium prefer Z2 or Z3 for chip space; for steel side milling and finishing Z4; for high-feed roughing and hard materials Z4–Z6.
Do you make special sizes or profiles?
Yes. To your drawing we make special diameter, length, profile, corner radius and coating – including form and step mills.
