CNC parameter calculator

Speed and feed calculator

Values come only from the cutting-data tables of the Geppetto Product Catalogue 2026: choose the series, material, operation and diameter to get spindle speed (n) and feed rate (Vf).

Operation
Number of flutes (Z)
You can edit the values
Spindle speed (n)–rpm
Feed rate (Vf)–mm/min
Vc
– m/min
Recommended range: –
fz
– mm/tooth
Recommended range: –

Important

Catalogue values are starting recommendations. Adjust them to machine rigidity, clamping, tool length and coolant. If chatter occurs, reduce speed and feed by the same ratio.

Recommended Geppetto series for this job

Selected from the application ranges in our catalogue for the material and operation you chose.

Formulas

n = (Vc × 1000) / (π × D)Spindle speed [rpm]
Vf = n × fz × ZFeed rate [mm/min]
Vc = (π × D × n) / 1000Cutting speed [m/min]
Vf = n × fnDrill feed rate [mm/min]

Troubleshooting

Common milling problems and how to fix them

Pick a problem to see the likely causes and the first settings to try.

Chatter (vibration)
Likely cause

Tool stick-out too long, weak clamping, or spindle speed in a resonance zone.

Fix

Clamp the tool as short as possible, try changing the speed by 10–15%, reduce ae or ap. With long tools reduce Vc and fz by 20–40%.

Chipped cutting edge
Likely cause

Feed per tooth too high, impact on entry, or hard material.

Fix

Reduce fz, enter the material with a ramp or helical entry, choose a TiSiN-coated series for hard materials.

Chip packing (slotting)
Likely cause

Poor chip evacuation, too many flutes, or weak coolant.

Fix

Use fewer flutes for slotting, direct air blast or coolant into the slot, machine in several depth steps (ap).

Rapid wear
Likely cause

Cutting speed too high or a coating unsuited to the material.

Fix

Lower Vc to the bottom of the recommended range and choose a coating suited to the material. Regrind worn tools in time to extend tool life.

Poor surface finish
Likely cause

Feed per tooth too high, worn tool, or excessive runout.

Fix

For finishing lower fz and raise speed, use a low-runout holder, regrind or replace the worn tool.
