Speed and feed calculator
Values come only from the cutting-data tables of the Geppetto Product Catalogue 2026: choose the series, material, operation and diameter to get spindle speed (n) and feed rate (Vf).
- Vc
- – m/min
- Recommended range: –
- fz
- – mm/tooth
- Recommended range: –
Catalogue values are starting recommendations. Adjust them to machine rigidity, clamping, tool length and coolant. If chatter occurs, reduce speed and feed by the same ratio.

Common milling problems and how to fix them
Pick a problem to see the likely causes and the first settings to try.
Chatter (vibration)
Tool stick-out too long, weak clamping, or spindle speed in a resonance zone.
Clamp the tool as short as possible, try changing the speed by 10–15%, reduce ae or ap. With long tools reduce Vc and fz by 20–40%.
Chipped cutting edge
Feed per tooth too high, impact on entry, or hard material.
Reduce fz, enter the material with a ramp or helical entry, choose a TiSiN-coated series for hard materials.
Chip packing (slotting)
Poor chip evacuation, too many flutes, or weak coolant.
Use fewer flutes for slotting, direct air blast or coolant into the slot, machine in several depth steps (ap).
Rapid wear
Cutting speed too high or a coating unsuited to the material.
Lower Vc to the bottom of the recommended range and choose a coating suited to the material. Regrind worn tools in time to extend tool life.
Poor surface finish
Feed per tooth too high, worn tool, or excessive runout.
For finishing lower fz and raise speed, use a low-runout holder, regrind or replace the worn tool.
